Meals for Transition House
FCSB’s Transition House outreach involves providing next day lunches together with a nutritious meal for homeless families residing at the Transition House Shelter. Each month, on the second Tuesday, members of our Transition House food team arrive at the shelter by about 5:30 pm. At the shelter, lunch bags and next-day sandwiches are made and dinner preparations are attended to. By approximately 6:15pm the preparations are complete and we serve the residents dinner. Afterwards, we do the cleanup.
The cost of this outreach is generally covered by contributions from the congregation although monies can be drawn from the Fellowship Outreach budget when needed. The lunches and dinner are prepared for 60+ people — approximately 55 residents (28 adults and teens and 27 children) plus shelter workers and the Transition House staff.
During 2024, participants in the FCCSB Transition House Meals program included about 20 members of our congregation. The food, as well as monetary donations to purchase it, could not be done without the support of the congregation as a whole.
